New South Wales Corrective Services Museum

About This Attraction

Located in the beautiful, historic and functioning Cooma Gaol, this museum highlights the varied 200 year history of the Correctional Services in New South Wales with information, displays and artefacts from the convicts through to the modern day system. Inmates guide tours through the museum. Inmate arts and crafts for sale along with Aboriginal art.

Cooma Monaro Railway

Cooma Railway Station was opened in 1889, and rail services to Cooma ceased in 1988. Visitors can still experience the nostalgia of rail travel on a 1924 rail motor. The rail motor departs the historic railway station each weekend (note, days and times vary seasonally and depending on school holiday periods), and travel north to Bunyan - or further north to Chakola. Charters are available outside regular times.

The Little Gallery is operated by Monaro Art Group and has on display locally made paintings, crafts and sculptures of a high standard. The items on display are available for purchase.

Mount Gladstone

Mt Gladstone Lookout and Nature Reserve sits in 125 hectares of native bushland less than four kilometres from the edge of Cooma township and offers magnificent views from two easily accessible platforms across the Monaro Plains to the peaks of the Snowy Mountains. There are toilets and barbecue facilities available. Coach and car parking is also available.
